The existing lawn had become patchy and muddy due to the attentions of a recently acquired beautiful black Labrador puppy. The client did not want any more grass and needed something more suited to the demands of the new family member.
Indian sandstone was used to create a large terrace and the stones were laid on the diagonal to exaggerate the width of the space. A decked walkway leads away from the terrace to a large decked area at the bottom of the garden which houses a built-in sand-pit for the Labrador.
Raised borders were made from railway sleepers to enable a succession of beautiful flowering perennials and grasses of blue/purple, red/orange, and planted in blocks. The other borders were planted with more robust shrubs.
A focal point for the garden is a beautiful Olea europea (olive tree) which is under-planted with lavender, alliums and blue grasses.
