A complete re-design in Shepherds Bush, London W12

The Indian sandstone terrace is laid to lead the eye towards the seating areas, where a large cantilevered bench is built into a retaining wall providing a perfect spot from which to enjoy the garden. The retaining wall also incorporates a small pond with a fountain and a large raised bed.

The focal point of the planting in the raised bed is a beautiful Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ with large purple heart-shaped leaves. Surrounding the Cercis, and selected to provide colour throughout the season, is a fusion of perennials with flowers in muted shades of red, orange and yellow. The left hand border was planted for foliage interest using engaging colour and shape. Hydrangea quercifolia was selected for its oak-shaped leaves and beautiful flowers, and is complemented with additional planting based on a ‘black and white’ theme. Finally, a decked walkway leads to a small, hidden, pebbled area where the clients beautiful existing acer was re-planted. Swaying grasses add to the mystery of this area of the garden and their delicate shadows reflect onto the back, rendered wall.

The garden was planted in September 2004.
